We are building Redpanda, a real-time streaming engine for modern applications. Redpanda is used by Fortune 1000 enterprises pushing hundreds of terabytes a day, and by the solo dev prototyping a React application on her laptop. We go beyond the Kafka protocol into the future of streaming, with inline WASM transforms and geo-replicated hierarchical storage. Think of it as a data API platform that scales with you from the smallest projects to petabytes of data distributed across the globe. We are on a mission to enable every developer to supercharge their real time applications.
Growing Redpanda’s developer community and customer base depends on having a seamless user experience, from the moment a developer initially tests our product to managing a streaming application in the cloud. This means maintaining a deeply user-centric approach to product design, intuitive guided onboarding and out-of-box functionality, and a visual aesthetic that is both elegant and functional.
We are looking for an experienced product design leader to own our end-to-end design vision, strategy, and implementation. Reporting to the VP of Product, you will drive the overall design and user experience for our products (including the core streaming platform and cloud SaaS areas), spearhead a design-centric approach for the end-to-end user journey, as well as build and manage a team of world-class designers.
This is an opportunity to work directly with executive leadership at a startup that is fast-growing (multiple customers running in production) and well funded by top-tier investors (including Google Ventures, Lightspeed, and Haystack). You will own design from the ground-up, and have the opportunity to receive mentorship from the Google Ventures Design team–expert leaders with years of experience building best-in-class products and organizations.
Own the end-to-end design vision, strategy, process, and workflows for the company
Recruit and manage a world-class team of designers to keep pace with product needs and business growth.
Study user workflows and pain points, and design a world-class product experience to match
Create design artifacts (flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups) that help support new feature development and the overall user journey
Plan and conduct usability research and testing, with integration of user feedback into product enhancements
Collaborate with development teams (including Engineering and Product Management) to ensure we ship a seamless and intuitive user experience
You’ll be part of a diverse, fully remote team with members in both US (New York City, San Francisco, San Diego, Austin, Denver) and international locations, including Colombia, the United Kingdom, Russia, Poland, and growing!
6+ years of experience in enterprise SaaS product/UX design (ideally led design initiatives for one or more products) with emphasis on interaction design over visuals
A thoughtful, well-structured, iterative design thinking process, with deep empathy for user pain points and workflows
Created world-class user flows and prototypes with industry standard tools (e.g. Figma)
Collaborated with product managers and engineers for design of both end-to-end user journeys and focused feature development
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely explain rationale for design choices from a user’s perspective
Comfortable working with a fast-moving 100% distributed engineering team, collaborating on GitHub in the open
Design experience with enterprise infrastructure or developer tools products and their associated user personas
A portfolio showcasing your design contributions to different projects
Have managed and/or mentored designers in the past
